Change NHS consultation - The 10 Year Health Plan for England

The NHS is consulting on its 10 Year Health Plan and seeking views from the health professionals about how to fix the NHS.

We know that NHS dentistry is broken. We need to reiterate this point, but also set out our vision for how NHS dentistry can be made to work for dentists and our patients.

The deadline to do so is Monday 2nd December at 17:00.This is a short deadline, so the BDA has prepared some pointers to help:

Your input will have most value if you relate it to the issues and experiences impacting on your practices and patients, and conveying the problems with the NHS in your area will make your submission even more powerful.

Educational Supervisors for Dental Foundation Training

NHSE will shortly be opening the recruitment process for Educational Supervisors (ES) to work within Dental Foundation Training (DFT).

DFT can be a great way of expanding your dental workforce, and providing your team with a new focus and interest.  Many practices in the region have enjoyed the challenge of helping a new graduate dentist in their first year of practice, and in some instances these trainees have stayed on past their DFT year to boost the number of dentists working at the practice in the longer term.

Further details about DFT can be found here:

Dental Foundation Training | East of England

The application process for new ESs will open in late November.  Please be aware that you will need your own nhs.net email address to make an application.  Applicants will have a practice visit in January/February 2025.  If you are successful with your application, training will be provided and the trainee dentist would start at your practice on 1st Sept 2025 and complete their post on 31st Aug 2026.

If you are interested in applying to be an Educational Supervisor within the East of England there will be a one-hour virtual teaching event held at 7pm on Tuesday 12th November.  You will need to book onto this event to attend.  This event is now live on Accent and can be found here:
